Preparation

The SDK, in coordination with its support partners, has decided to join forces with the Koblenz-based « Brillen weltweit » (World Glasses) initiative, which will prepare and redistribute the glasses.

The preparation includes :

• cleaning
• testing to determine whether the lenses are single vision or progressive
• repair of glasses to be repaired using existing parts
• determination of the power of the glasses
• creation of an eyewear passport with the necessary information
• removal of plastic parts such as temple tips and nose pads from unusable glasses
• material recycling of unusable glasses

The sunglasses will also be checked and, if necessary, repaired, and will be assigned to a separate project in northern India.

Outdoor candle (Käerzefabrik Peters s.àr.l.)

Candles are not only beautiful; their wax is also a high-quality raw material. Every household has leftover wax and candles that are normally thrown away. But what happens to them once they’ve burned? Because it’s a shame for the energy they still contain.

Since 2020, the SDK has been organizing the collection of candle leftovers through the SDK’s problematic product collection in cooperation with the Käerzefabrik Peters in Heiderscheid. Therefore, don’t throw unused or incompletely burned candles in the household waste! Use the SDK’s mobile collection system or drop them off at your local Resource Center. Candle leftovers are first checked at the SDK center in Colmar-Berg to see if they meet the requirements. At the Käerzefabrik Peters, they are then used in the production of new candles, torches, and tealight holders.

The reuse of candles and candle wax in Luxembourg is a good example of the circular economy and the promotion of local producers and circuits.

Pallets for reuse / repair

The repair of pallets makes an important contribution to the circular economy – and both SuperDrecksKëscht® (SDK) and Wilwertz-Lanners in Luxembourg play a key role in this process.

Since 1978, the company Wilwertz-Lanners , based in Oberwampach, has been dedicated to the refurbishment and reuse of pallets. Their services include the repair of all types of pallets – including wooden and Euro pallets – as well as their production, transport, and even container rental.

In practice, both activities complement each other: SDK collects defective or worn pallets from companies. These are then delivered to Wilwertz-Lanners, where they are professionally repaired and fed back into the material cycle.

Drums / IBCs for reconditioning

The reconditioning of drums and IBC containers is an important contribution to the circular economy: used containers are restored to an almost new condition through cleaning, repairs, and leak testing. Internal and external cleaning, the replacement of defective parts such as valves or pallets, and final inspection are key steps – usually much more cost-effective and environmentally friendly than new production.

The EarthMinded program of the Greif Group offers a practical global solution: it includes collection, reconditioning, and return of industrial packaging – reliable, cost-efficient, and fully compliant. Packaging that can no longer be used is responsibly recycled.

In Luxembourg, companies can send their used drums and IBC containers to Earth-Minded via SDK, where they are professionally refurbished.
